By undertaking a qualitative research, this study is to understand the role art materials would play in an art center for young children's peer interaction and art learning. The subjects were those of a class of five-year-old children in a kindergarten who played in the art center in the classroom. The kindergarten is located in Tainan County. The observation lasted for six months. In addition to observations, the sources of the data of the study included interviews and documents. Based on the three data sources, analysis was undertaken through the procedures of constant comparison, data conceptualizing, open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The findings of this study are presented as follows: 1. Sufficient and multi-form art materials would induce peer interaction. 2. The goal of art learning can be achieved by providing young children with multiple art materials and plentiful peer interaction. 3. According to young children's experiences, providing art materials gradually would induce young children's creation and expression. According to the findings, the researcher presents suggestions for teachers and future researchers. |
