This study aims to investigate the fifth and sixth grade students’ learning motivation and satisfaction with respect to the students’ background factors as the interactive whiteboard (IWB) is adopted into teaching activities in elementary schools. The correlation between learning motivation and learning satisfaction of the students who learn with interactive whiteboards is also explored. In order to collect the required data for this study, a questionnaire was developed, and the population of the questionnaire is the whole senior students in the public elementary schools in Kaohsiung County. By making use of stratified random sampling, 720 valid samples were drawn from the population for this study. We analyzed the collected data by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, stepwise multiple regression analysis and other statistical methods. The results of this study include: 1. Using interactive whiteboard in teaching activities can definitely improve students’ learning motivation and learning satisfaction; 2. The students’ experience of using IWB and ability of using computers are two dominate background factors, which strongly affect their learning motivation and satisfaction. Thus, enhancing the student’s ability of using computers can facilitate the successful introduction of IWB into elementary schools; 3. For the fifth and sixth grade students who use IWB, our findings revealed that there was positive correlation between learning motivation and learning satisfaction; 4. The learning motivation is a significant predictor for learning satisfaction for the students using IWB in teaching activities. The results of this study may help administrators and teachers in elementary schools successfully introduce the IWBs into teaching activities, and also provide researchers with valuable experience and several interesting topics for their future studies. |
