Faced with an increasingly aging society, Taiwan's Minister of Education published an “Education Policy for the Elderly White Paper” to promote older adults' physical, mental and social health through continued learning. This study aims to explore the learning process of successful aging retirees, including their awareness of the opportunities for continued learning, the actions they take to continue their learning, and their learning outcomes. The researchers adopted a qualitative approach and conducted one-on-one semi-structured in-depth interviews with 30 successful retirees. It was found that (1) awareness of continued learning opportunities after retirement is promoted by retirement planning, the guidance of one's peers and self-reflection; (2) retirees tend to reflect on the meaning of life by participating in many diverse learning activities; (3) diverse learning activities enhance the interviewees' ability to age successfully. Finally, five learning patterns followed by successful aging retirees are identified. |
