Prof. Robert J. Sternberg is a well-known scholar who was invited to make a keynote speech on“Transformational Giftedness, and Why Our Conventional Definition of Giftedness Has Become a Disservice to Humanity”at the 17th Asia Pacific Conference on Gifted Education held in Taipei, Taiwan. Based on the leadership theory, Sternberg introduced the concept of transactional and transformational giftedness and further divided it into nine different gifted categories. On the basis of this concept, the problems and deficiencies of traditional identification of the gifted were analyzed, and relevant examples and suggestions for gifted identification and teaching were provided. In this article, the content of the speech is introduced first, and then the authors’reflection on their own experience in gifted education as well as their thoughts and ideas are put forward accordingly. |
