The talents of students with learning disabilities are often overshadowed by their lower academic achievements, leading us to focus on their learning weaknesses rather than their strengths. This paper aims to shed light on the development of musical talent in students with learning disabilities through the personal experience of a researcher who is also a person with learning disabilities. Given that the researcher’s engagement with music commenced subsequent to their assessment as having a learning disability, this study focuses on investigating the developmental journey of musical aptitude from primary school to the graduate school. Through the sharing of this experiential journey, the aim is to facilitate a greater understanding among educators regarding the characteristics of learning disabilities and the potential challenges they may encounter in the learning process. Let educators can gain deeper insights into how to assist students with learning disabilities in cultivating their strengths and enhancing their self-concept. |
