In the past, online teaching was an auxiliary teaching method, an enhancement plan when traditional face-to-face teaching could not be achieved, but the arrival of the COVID-19 has reversed the scenario: it has forced most countries to adjust the definition of online teaching and implement it in a hurried time and in all fields of education. The strong presence of this new digital age in turn implies that the teaching and learning methods will undergo fundamental changes, the traditional Chinese L2 teaching mode will not be applicable to online teaching. However, how can students and teachers prepare for remote teaching? Will virtual education replace classroom learning? How should Chinese L2 teaching adapt the new communication media and methods? This paper will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of face-to-face teaching and online teaching, devising a blended-learning plan that flows flexibly between the traditional classroom teaching and online education without interruption, which will provide the students with the tools to adjust their communication strategies to different contexts. We will thus show that Chinese online education will evolve over time, rather than replace face-to-face education. |
