家長參與青少年子女教育與大學入學之關聯

Relationship Between Parental Involvement and College Attendance among Secondary School Students in Taiwan

家長透過多種方式影響子女之教育與學業成就，但目前文獻尚未系統性討論家長介入子女教育之策略如何變化，及其對子女不同階段教育成果之關聯。本研究依循社會認知生涯理論，分析〈台灣青少年成長歷程研究〉國三樣本，經結構方程模式分析發現：不具大專學歷之家長較不會參與其九年級子女之教育，但此差異於子女就讀十二年級時消失。家長對子女之學歷期待越高，其子女畢業後直接就讀大學之機率亦越高。研究結果突顯家長參與青少年子女教育之重要性與韌性。

Parents manage and influence their child’s education and academic success in multiple ways. However, it remains unclear how parents vary their involvement in the child’s education and inspire their child to attend college when they do not have college experience. To explore the relationship between parental involvement and the child’s academic outcome, we followed the social cognitive career theory and analyzed the Taiwan Youth Project data. Our structural equation modeling estimation revealed that parents without a college degree engage in a lower level of all types of parental involvement in the ninth-grade child’s education than those with a college degree, but the difference became statistically non-significant in 12th grade. A higher parental educational expectation was related to a higher probability of attending college immediately after high school graduation. Findings highlight the strength and resilience among parents of varying sociodemographic background.
