School middle leaders are crucial to school organizational changes. The implementation of “12-year National Basic Curriculum Guidelines” has drastically changed teaching methods and learning styles in high schools, which is challenging to middle leaders. Therefore, this research adopted qualitative interviews in order to explore the experiences of five high school middle leaders, and to realize the challenges and coping strategies during the curriculum reform. An analysis of the data yielded two results: 1. The challenges to middle leaders included dimensions of “institutional structure”, “organizational culture”, “communication and collaboration” and “professional development”. 2. The coping strategies comprised “prioritizing task order”, “using the advantages of junior teach-ers”, “performing responsive leadership” and “developing curriculum leadership competency”. Moreover, follow-up research and practical sug-gestions are put forward. |
