This study aims to investigate the current implementation status of remedial instruction in elementary schools in Changhua County. The research methods include document analysis, questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews. The subjects of this study are 20 administrators in the elementary schools with excellent remedial instruction. The results are as follows: In terms of school administration, after the students most in need of counseling are identified, it is necessary to strengthen communication and contact with parents. It is recommended that the competent authorities should continue budgeting adequate funding to assisting disadvantaged students of low achievement. In the research and promotion as well as professional teacher training, it is needed to have more energy increase studies about learning diagnosis and remedial instruction to enhance teachers' professional knowledge and implement effective teaching. In terms of the implementation of remedial instruction, teachers should use the learning diagnosis system to assess students' abilities of starting points and the reasons of learning backwardness; besides, teachers should use multiple teaching strategies to inspire students' interest in learning to design individualized and adaptive remedial instruction according to students' level; furthermore, schools should also keep track and counsel the students needing to participate in remedial instruction but not participating to establish each student's individual learning portfolio. |
