In this paper, I attempted to see how much support for the study of Japanese literature can be accomplished through AI text mining techniques in the text of world-renowned author Yoko Tawadas''The Emissary''. Reading''The Emissary''from the perspective of ecofeminism in the global age, text mining does not reveal the events of the global age depicted in the work, such as''refugee problems,''''language problems,''''the disappearance of Japans advanced nuclear technology and civilization,''and''environmental protection. However, it was confirmed that the results of the text mining analysis revealed the intimacy of human relationships, expressions of longing, and mediums of communication, which should be clarified when analyzing literary works. If we take a perspective other than ecofeminism in the global age and use AI technology to support literary research, it can adequately support multiple readings of literary works and can admirably fulfill its role as an effective supporter. On the other hand, we have also found that the support of AI technology is still not fully functional in literary research based on certain theories such as ecofeminism, but if we look at this paradoxically, the multifaceted close reading of the text done by humans becomes even more important. In humanities and social sciences research, which is based on a fixed theory such as ecofeminism, there are some concerns about AI technology. However, if we collaborate with AI technology, which has strengths in quantitative research and is based on the qualitative reading skills of literary researchers, we can expect a further improvement in research results. |
