'Key Competencies'' are identified as the core to the 12-Year Basic Education Curricula Guidelines (abbreviated as the New Curricula Guidelines) that have been put into practice in the current 12-year education system in Taiwan since 2019. The Guidelines aim to equip students with three competencies-''knowledge,'' ''abilities'' and ''attitude''-so that they can adapt well to modern life today and even in the future. However, by what means can we build any of these competencies via pedagogy? This study focused on ''attitude'' and conducted an investigation into a Level-1 Japanese-language class in the context of a high school in Taiwan. It designed and showcased a set of teaching activities that incorporated ''attitude'' into the syllabus, seeking to make students aware of ''attitude'' in their learning process in class. This was followed by a survey consisting of questionnaires administered to the participants. Positive feedback in this case study not only reflected success of the teaching activities in practice, but also highlighted how to adopt ''attitude'' as a key competency in pedagogy. |
