The hiking guide, Nenem, and the engineer, Pennen, appeared in the The Biography of Gusukonbudori as if they were copied from the previous work, The Biography of Pennennennennen Nenem, in which the hero, Budori, met those characters who have the names he used to have. The thesis firstly made an integrated study of such transtextual technique like this regarding to the The Biography of Gusukonbudori. It clearly showed the relation among the three characters, mountain guide Nenem, engineer Pennen and Budori, is the core of the story. Nenem is a rooted-in-origin mountain guide, Pennen is an uprooted engineer, and Budori, who is keeping in touch but growing further apart from his root, is seen as the combination of Nenem and Pennen. In addition, based on the clear result, the thesis did a comparison between the The Biography of Gusukobudori, as well as the revised work of the The Biography of Gusukonbudori, to confirm the difference between technique and theme consciousness of both texts and did a further discussion of the self-sacrifice death of the main character, which is a controversial issue in the history of research. |
