This article described the nursing experiences of a 60 years old male patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The patient was assessed by Roy's Nursing Care model from the third of Jananury to the 17th in 2001. The patient presented COPD induced gas exchange impairment, activity intolerance, nutrition alteration, and hopeless feeling. The function of gas exchange has been improved after an appropriate nursing plan was provided. The patient was trained for caring himself to face the reality of the disease, to increase tolerance of activity, to improve his ability to function daily activities normally, and to reduce the chance of COPD relapse. Upon being discharged, insufficient of increasing tolerance of activity was found and repeated depression still presented. Continuing supportive program to increase his confidence was suggested to ensure a better prognosis of this patient. |
