Since 2000, the Healthcare Quality Improvement Campaign (HQIC), the predecessor of National Healthcare Quality Award (NHQA), has gradually expanded its evaluation framework to include the categories of system, centers of excellence, and community institutions. These mechanisms have encouraged healthcare organizations to embed continuous improvement, teamwork, and innovative management as guiding principles, thereby cultivating a culture of quality and developing distinctive healthcare models. To date, more than 232 organizations have participated, demonstrating tangible contributions to the advancement of healthcare quality. Excellence is not defined by a single benchmark. The pursuit of excellence requires attention to outcomes, effectiveness, and accessibility, as well as the practical integration of administrative support and digital transformation into practice. It also entails peer recognition achieved through publications, accreditation, and professional exchange, which, in turn foster institutionalization and standardization as sources of long-term value. Through this process, the NHQA has served not only as a platform that motivates healthcare teams but also as a catalyst that enables healthcare organizations to establish lasting competitiveness and sustainable development models, continuously guiding the enhancement of healthcare quality in Taiwan.
