Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital has served the community for 39 years, upholding the philosophies of “providing patient-centered care and showing respect for life” while safeguarding the health and lives of people in Eastern Taiwan. In 2024, when powerful typhoons and earthquakes severely damaged transportation routes and left Hualien isolated, the hospital’s entire team remained undeterred by the natural disasters. In the face of adversity, the team exhibited resilience and professionalism, grounding its care in humanistic medicine to identify and respond to patients’ needs. The hospital has also collaborated with 16 other institutions across the Hualien–Taitung region to promote health equity and improve the average life expectancy and well-being of local residents. As a cornerstone of health care in the Yilan–Hualien–Taitung area, the hospital has been ranked among the top 250 hospitals of the World’s Best Hospitals by Newsweek for three consecutive years and the top 35 in Taiwan. In 2025, the hospital further advanced to 12th place in Taiwan- the highest-ranking medical center outside Taiwan’s six special municipalities. The hospital continues to progress toward becoming an internationally recognized, patient-centered institution.
