The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted global healthcare systems, particularly longterm care facilities. Residents inlong-term care facilities are predominantly elderly individuals, those with comorbidities or compromised immune systems, face heightened infection risks. With the rapid expansion of long-term care facilities in recent years, existing healthcare guidelines and policies, originally designed for acute care settings, often pose challenges for implementation in long-term care contexts. Several outbreaks of infectious diseases, such as influenza, COVID-19, and scabies, have been reported within these facilities.
As result, developing the capacity to swiftly respond to emergent epidemic while managing high workload and maintaining baseline infection control practices has thus become challenging. Infection control serves as the cornerstone for safeguarding resident health and ensuring the stable operation of long-term care facilities. Future efforts should focus on enhancing inter-institutional collaboration to facilitate comprehensive implementation of infection control measures, improve efficacy, and reduce outbreak risks, ultimately achieving higher care quality.
