Hemodialysis vascular access dysfunction is an important issue for both patients and medical professionals. Studies have shown that integrating traditional Chinese medicine and nursing care of vascular access for hemodialysis can reduce vascular access complications and promote arteriovenous fistula maturity.
This article aims to review literatures regarding the Western and traditional Chinese medicine on pathogenesis and pathology of vascular remodeling and neointimal hyperplasia in the setting of hemodialysis vascular access dysfunction, and to inspire the future development of the integrative Western and traditional Chinese medical nursing care programs for hemodialysis vascular access.
