Freelancing is a growing career choice for Vietnamese youth, yet its behavioral determinants remain underexplored under conditions of uncertainty. This study investigates the factors influencing freelance career intentions using an extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) model that integrates social capital, human capital, and personality traits alongside traditional behavioral constructs. Quantitative data collected from 233 young Vietnamese respondents were analyzed in freelance intentions. All six proposed hypotheses are fully supported. Personality Traits and Human Capital emerge as the strongest drivers, followed by Perceived Behavioral Control and Personal Attitude. Social Capital and Social Perception exert secondary influences. The study theoretically validates the extended TPB model and provides practical insights for educators, policymakers, and businesses to build a sustainable gig economy in Vietnam. |
