Chemical compositions and microstructures of IrO2-Ta2O5 coated titanium electrodes were characterized by XRD, XPS and SEM, and their electrolysis behavior in sea water was studied using cyclic voltammetry. The effect of IrO2 content on the microstructure and service life of the IrO2-Ta2O5/Ti oxide electrode was discussed as well. It was found that the voltammetric charge and service life showed maximum values at a 70 mol% of Ir. In addition, auxiliary anodes complying with commercial dimensions for applications in the cathodic protection systems of condensers were fabricated with optimal parameters. The auxiliary anodes showed excellent performance during a one-year service test and have the potential to replace conventional platinum coated titanium electrodes. |
