The object of this study is to investigate the effect of fly ash and slag on the microstructure characteristics and durability of concrete. Seven groups of concrete specimens with fly ash/slag were cast and tested. In this study, compressive strength test, absorption rate test, rapid chloride penetration test (RCPT), chloride ponding test, and resistivity test were performed. Test results show that the application of pozzolanic materials can reduce the permeability and improve the mechanical properties of concrete. The amount of charge passed and diffusion coefficient of concrete decreases and resistivity increases with an increasing fly ash replacement of cement, and concretes with a combination of fly ash and slag are more beneficial than those only with fly ash for a given water/binder ratio. |
