The intension of this paper is to assess citizen satisfaction in the historic cities where the redevelopment has been done and based on that evaluation, give guidance to other historic cities which are in the process of redevelopment. 389 citizens of the walled city Amritsar provided answers to a questionnaire. Following a pilot research, the questionnaire's standard scale questions from earlier investigations were added. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used after an exploratory factor analysis to explore the hypotheses. The four parameters of citizen satisfaction namely mobility, infrastructure facilities, citizen awareness, and economic status were identified through an extensive literature review. Based on these selected parameters, hypotheses were constructed and tested for their significant relation with citizen satisfaction which comes out with a positive response. This study has robust practical implications. As compared with the traditional approaches where a great amount of emphasis was put on the physical upgradation of the tourist spots, however based on the parameters that enhance citizen satisfaction, this paper will improve the quality of life of the citizens. The current study is a first attempt for evaluating citizen satisfaction post-redevelopment in historic cities. The research allows for the observation of the strengths and weaknesses of a redevelopment plan, and its ability to promote citizen satisfaction from different perspectives. |
