Background and Purpose: Early symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD) typically include unilateral resting tremors, bradykinesia, and masked facial expressions. As the disease progresses, patients often develop muscle rigidity, a shuffling gait, and postural instability, significantly increasing the risk of falls and walking difficulties. Existing research suggests that Nordic walking may slow motor progression while improving non-motor symptoms and overall quality of life. This evidence-based project rigorously synthesized literature to evaluate the effectiveness of Nordic walking in improving the walking ability of patients with PD. Method: Using the PICO framework, a comprehensive search was conducted across major databases using Boolean operators for systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and randomized controlled trials published before July 17, 2025. Literature quality was appraised using the 2024 CASP checklist, and the level of evidence was categorized according to the 2011 Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM) guidelines to formulate clinical recommendations. Results and Conclusions: The synthesized evidence indicates that while the impact of Nordic walking on walking ability varies across studies, it remains a simple, low-cost, and safe intervention. Implementing Nordic walking can help mitigate the progressive decline in mobility associated with PD and serves as a viable supplementary therapy in clinical practice. |
