The present study proposed the construct of the Peaceful Perspective of Happiness based on Chinese cultural values and developed its corresponding measurement in Study 1. The results of Study 1 showed that the Peaceful Perspective of Happiness Scale demonstrated a unidimensional structure, good item–total consistency, and satisfactory reliability. Study 2 further examined its factor structure through confirmatory factor analysis, and the revised seven-item version exhibited good model fit. Evidence for criterion-related validity also indicated that the Peaceful Perspective of Happiness was positively associated with Peace of Mind, satisfaction with life, and ideal low-arousal positive affect, and showed differential associations with positive emotions across levels of arousal. Study 2 further showed that the Peaceful Perspective of Happiness moderated the associations between emotional experiences and Peace of Mind by buffering the negative impact of negative affect and attenuating the influence of affect balance, whereas no moderation effect was found for positive affect. Study 3 replicated the psychometric properties of the scale in a non-student adult sample and revealed that the Peaceful Perspective of Happiness strengthened the positive association between low-arousal positive affect and Peace of Mind. Overall, this research developed a culturally grounded measure of happiness and demonstrated that the Peaceful Perspective of Happiness functions as a culturally rooted form of emotion regulation wisdom that contributes to inner peace across different emotional contexts. |
