The growth of output value in the medical device industry is mainly driven by contributions from the eyewear manufacturing sector, within which the contact lens industry plays a particularly pivotal role. As contact lenses come into direct contact with the eyes and are closely related to users’health and safety, manufacturers should jointly fulfill social responsibilities with their suppliers to safeguard corporate reputations. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the selection of medical device suppliers in the contact lens industry from the perspective of corporate social responsibility (CSR). This study establishes a performance evaluation framework for medical device suppliers in the contact lens industry based on sustainability indicators such as environmental and social dimensions, with the aim of integrating CSR into supplier management. This study employs the Delphi method to establish the research framework and applies the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method to identify key factors, including product quality, compliance with regulatory requirements across countries, document control procedures, employee education and training, product traceability and identification, internal audits, customer complaint handling, capability to handle quality abnormalities, and respect policies. To highlight the strong linkage between suppliers’sustainability performance indicators and the quality management systems of medical device manufacturers, all key factors are consolidated into five dimensions—quality, systems, employee education and training, capability to handle quality abnormalities, and respect policies—and causal diagrams are used to conduct root-cause management analysis. The research findings can serve as a reference for contact lens manufacturers in selecting medical device suppliers and can also assist suppliers in improving their sustainability performance. |
