The hospital is located in the heart of a chemical industrial zone, and the Emergency Department responds to an average of one to two toxic chemical leak or mass casualty incidents each year, facing numerous challenges in the process. To increase efficiency, the Emergency Department collaborated with the fire department and external factories to implement improvements through the application of intelligent systems, including an EMS alert system, an antidote database, an injured patient information platform, an electronic position-fixing system for support staff, and a protective equipment management platform. The benefits were as follows: (1) personnel preparation time increased 166%, (2) patient wait time for initial prescriptions post-arrival decreased 86%, (3) toxic chemicals query time decreased 90%, (4) nurse–patient ratio imbalance alerts reached 100%, (5) equipment inventory time decreased 86%, (6) expired equipment ratio reached 0%, (7) the amount of equipment meeting minimum standards reached 100%, and (8) employee safety incidents stood at zero. By introducing intelligent systems, the Emergency Department achieved lean management of manpower utilization, equipment management, advance preparations, and other processes. This process simplification increased the efficiency of handling toxic chemical leaks and mass casualty incidents, thereby creating a safe healthcare environment for employees and patients. |
