Since its introduction in 1988, Taiwan’s hospital accreditation system has evolved into a key mechanism for improving healthcare quality. In line with global trends, recent reforms have shifted the focus from structural and process compliance to patient-centered care, emphasizing outcomes and patient experiences. Future accreditation may adopt diverse data sources, patient-focused methodology (PFM), artificial intelligence (AI) governance, unannounced surveys, and continuous quality monitoring to help hospitals build resilient and agile quality systems. Key aspects of AI governance include accountability, data privacy, transparency, risk management, and ethics. Furthermore, the commitment of hospital leadership to quality and safety should be increasingly scrutinized. Taiwan’s accreditation system is transitioning from compliance to excellence, requiring collaborative efforts from stakeholders to ensure ongoing healthcare improvements and safeguard public health. |
