This study introduces the principles and processes of developing teaching materials for the advanced Chinese course at our school. Through the materials’development, we established a unified standard for the scope of advanced courses, with the level of vocabulary, grammar, and topics based on the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) level 5. On the basis of learners’needs, the topic selection emphasizes practical themes connected to everyday life experiences and real-world events. Through various topics, learners acquire practical, extensive, and universal Chinese language skills. The exercises focus on the comprehensive practice of the four skill types, listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with extra emphasis on listening and speaking. Through interactive classroom discussions, students are encouraged to communicate with their classmates in Chinese, thereby enhancing their communicative and interpersonal skills, and enabling them to apply what they have learned in class to their daily lives. Additionally, the materials provide a comparison between simplified and traditional Chinese characters, catering to the diverse needs of learners and raising awareness of the Chinese language’s multiple facets. We hope that the design of these teaching materials will provide a reference for future advanced Chinese language textbooks in Japan. |
