There are many treatises to be published since the Sui Gong xu (<□公盨>) has been announced which was bought by the Poly Art Museum in 2002. In my study, I try to explain inscription on the Sui Gong xu by a new viewpoint. That is through the intermediary of composition of article to explain the inscription anew. Besides to propose the etymological explanation to the words-「□」、「桼」in my study, I also compare the inscription with the Book of History (one of the Thirteen Classics (《尚書》)). The inscription is closest to <無逸> in the composition of article. Likeness to <無逸>, the inscription had been written by the way of orderly composition : Yu— People (后稷『我王』—民); 「the nobility」—People(『貴族』—民). Under the composition, the inscription disclose that there is the probability that 「the nobility」in the inscription is a king who was in middle or late Western Chou. The gist of the inscription should be Sui-Gong exhorted the king to learn the Great-Yu and Hou-ji to be a great king. |
