Cheng ch'ou-yu is one of the most well known Taiwan poets around today. The critics praised his poems pretty highly. Since 1951 he started to publish his creations in newspapers and periodicals. Before he left Taiwan to America in 1968, he had written three volumes of poetry for 15 years (1951-65). Then, he did not publish new poems until 1980. When his book was in print again, his poems were written in a different style. This report is a study about Cheng ch'ou-yu's poems, which only focus on the early phase before he went to America. The first part will describe the themes of Cheng ch'ou-yu's poems; then, analyze the images, grammars, and rhymes...etc. The final section is to generalize the style from the instance of his poems and discover the value of Cheng ch'ou-yu's early poems. |
