Viewing from the dimension of the combination of poetry and the ode in literary creation, it is never ceasing from the period in which T'ang poetry begins to flourish. Li Pai and Tu Fu, two of ''the Four Outstanding Poets in the Early T'ang Dynasty, '' are the important representatives in this period. After the middle of T'ang Dynasty, poetry and the ode almost become a must for the T'ang people to be officials. Therefore, the combination of poetry and the ode never cease with the flourishing of T'ang poetry writing. On the contrary, on one hand, the ode still maintains its own literary motion and overtly or obscurely affects T'ang poetry writing; on the other hand, T'ang poetry also influences T'ang odes writing and the famous poet Pai Chu-yi is exactly the important representative. This paper, under the background of the T'ang Dynasty literature, attempts to focus on Pai Chu-yi5s poetry and odes combining the works written on the peony admiring, a historical event in middle T'ang Dynasty. In addition, it discusses the literary phenomenon of the combination of poetry and the ode as well as the classification of these two genres. This might make up for the insufficient part of the discourse. |
