The study of Xunzi in America started from an American scholar of Chinese Studies, Homer Dubs. In 1927, Dubs published a book, Hsuntze: the moulder of Ancient Confucianism, and in 1928, another book, The Works of Hsuntze, which was a selected translation from Chinese. Homer Dubs is the pioneer in the study of Xunzi in the states. His study of Xunzi in such subjects as the theory of human nature, the theory of names and the comparative study between Xunzi and Aristotle has made great contributions and influence in the circle of Chinese Studies in the states. This study is to explore the research result of Xunzi by Homer Dubs and to evaluate its meaning and contributions. |
