This study develops and establishes a multi-dimensional and standardized marital satisfaction inventory in order to assess and understand the marital relationship in various areas of marriage for couples in Taiwan. In this study, quantitative data was collected from a proportionate stratified random sample of 226 married couples in eight major cities in Taiwan. The multi-dimensional marital satisfaction inventory developed by this study has 58 items distributed in 12 sub-scales, including closeness, flexibility, personality, sexual relationship, financial management, leisure activities, parenting, families and friends, gender roles, values, response set, and marital satisfaction sub-scales. The analyses show that the inventory has high internal consistency reliability, content validity, construct validity, and concurrent validity. In addition, this study examines dyadic interactions between spouses by assessing both partners in each couple in the sample, which makes the computation of couple scores possible, without the limitations of previous one-spouse-only marital studies. |
