This study aims : (1) to evaluate the process and outcome of the 'A Treatment Model' — a drug user treatment program;(2) to measure the degree of satisfaction with the program by the participants;(3) to build the knowledge about drug users and treatment programs in Taiwan. A sample(N= 80) was selected from the A Hospital Drug Addiction Unit between July 1996 and February 1997. The measurement instruments included ASI (Addictive Severity Index); AA(Addiction Attitude); TS(Treatment Satisfaction Scale); and clinical records. The data analysis included chi-square tests, ANOVA tests, t-test and Pearson correlations, with the following results:(1) the treatment program was not compatible with the needs and concerns of different drug users;(2) the drug users were associated with legal problems which interfered with the medical system and jeopardizing the drug treatment program;(3) the treatment effects after a four month follow-up data indicated non-significance. |
