Although several helping professionals now offer counseling via the Internet, little empirical research exists on how this mode of delivery impacts group counseling process and result. The current study is designed to be a preliminary exploration into various aspects of online group counseling among college students. Twelve members from two counseling groups and four counselors in training were interviewed about their experiences in the six-session online group counseling. All dialogues among the participants in group counseling and in interview sessions were tape-recorded and transcribed. By adopting qualitative research method, the authors used content analysis, open-coding, and investigator triangulation as the ways to analyze research data. Some suggestions regarding online group counseling for group counseling practician, professional training, and future study were recommended. |
