The paper aims at clarifying the meanings of Kimura, Bin’s“Betweenness”, which is the key concept of his“phenomenological psychopathology”. We take Kimura’s book“Betweenness”(first published in 1988) as the object of discussion.“Betweeness”as his main concept, in Kimura's opinion, is a concept that cannot be translated into other languages. This article is divided into six sections. We first lay out some characteristics of“phenomenological psychopathology”in relative to“psychodynamics”, and then according to phenomenology to clarify his untranslatable“betweenness”along“betweenness as things”,“betweenness as events”,“betweenness as words”. It’s my opinion that they are all manifestations of the unspeakable“betweenness in itself”. Finally, I use Kimura’s own example of“spraying water from a fountain”to summarize the possible meanings of“betweenness”and give my own reflections. |
