How to Define Being Alive and Achieve a Good Death?：A Study of Elderly, Life and Death Writings in Chen Yu-chin's Message From Another World

陳又津2018年出版的長篇小說《跨界通訊》，以「老人去死」作為貫穿全書的線索，描繪外省榮民在當代社會中的老化處境與突圍嘗試。
本書出版前後，許多老年文本標榜「成功老化」實踐。但《跨界通訊》指出推崇單一老化模式，可能忽略個體差異。此外，亦藉由描繪老年困境的複雜難解，探問基於維護尊嚴、積極求死的選擇，是否亦為值得尊重的生命自主權？
有鑑於《跨界通訊》具有與既有老年文本對話的企圖，也透過不同年齡角色，探討死亡與生命自主的關係，文以此書作為論文的主軸，透過參照閱讀其他老年文本，梳理陳又津老年書寫的殊異性。其次，分析書中老者與少女「求死」的情節，探究作家如何透過角色的死亡行動，反思生命尊嚴，展開生命延續的想像。

Chen Yu-chin 's novel Message From Another World , published in 2018, uses '' The old man's death plan '' as a clue throughout the book, depicting the aging situation and attempts to break through of veterans from other provinces in contemporary society.
Before and after the publication of this book, many articles have pursued the practice of ''successful aging''. However, Message From Another World pointed out that advocating a single aging model may ignore individual differences. In addition, by depicting the complexity of the plight of the elderly, it also asks whether the choice of actively seeking death based on maintaining dignity is also a life autonomy worthy of respect?
The fact that Message From Another World attempts to converse with established texts on aging, and explores the link between death and life autonomy through characters of different ages. In view of the above, this article takes this book as the main axis of the paper, and discusses the uniqueness of Chen Yu-chin's elderly writing through reading other elderly texts. Secondly, it analyzes the plot of the old man and the girl ''seeking death'' in the book, and explore how the writer reflects on the dignity of life and unfolds the imagination of life continuation through the characters’acts of death.
