Chen Yu-chin 's novel Message From Another World , published in 2018, uses '' The old man's death plan '' as a clue throughout the book, depicting the aging situation and attempts to break through of veterans from other provinces in contemporary society. Before and after the publication of this book, many articles have pursued the practice of ''successful aging''. However, Message From Another World pointed out that advocating a single aging model may ignore individual differences. In addition, by depicting the complexity of the plight of the elderly, it also asks whether the choice of actively seeking death based on maintaining dignity is also a life autonomy worthy of respect? The fact that Message From Another World attempts to converse with established texts on aging, and explores the link between death and life autonomy through characters of different ages. In view of the above, this article takes this book as the main axis of the paper, and discusses the uniqueness of Chen Yu-chin's elderly writing through reading other elderly texts. Secondly, it analyzes the plot of the old man and the girl ''seeking death'' in the book, and explore how the writer reflects on the dignity of life and unfolds the imagination of life continuation through the characters’acts of death. |
