Hong Kong was handed over to China in 1997. The drafting of Basic Law of Hong Kong is originally regarded as the guaranty of“One Country, Two Systems”, in order to secure the stable economic development and establish the regulation basis of The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by means of providing residents a special citizenship. The intension of the mother country, China, is to erase the difference and achieve decolonization step by step through cultural integration. Nevertheless, unexpectedly, the increasing conflict between Hong Kong citizen and Chinese immigration highlights the uniqueness of Hong Kong citizenship after proceeding with the Basic Law and it leads to the shape and pursuit of self-identity of Hong Kong people. Therefore, this article attempts to shape the process of Hong Kong identity concept from the standpoint of social movements and its effect on the future in Hong Kong. |
