The main purpose of this research is to investigate the current status of the imple-mentation of newspaper in education of middle-grade elementary school students in Hsinchu County. The survey questionnaire includes teacher's version and student's version, then after data collection, statistical methods such as frequency distribution and chi square test are used for the analysis; then literature review is used for writing research result and suggestion.The major conclusions are as follows: I.There is still space for improvement in the implementation of newspaper in education in medium grade of elementary school of Hsinchu County. II.Teachers commonly take positive view on newspaper in education but the implementation result is not pretty good; the responsibility and planning of newspaper in education is usually based on the tutor of the class; most of the teachers think that the newspaper reading budget should be co-paid by parents, school and local education organization. III.The current status of newspaper in education is that the newspaper reading activity is embedded in the class or is carried out in the extracurricular time; most of the version used is language type; teachers tend to use diversified method to trigger student's newspaper reading motive; although most of the teachers can enhance student's reading understanding during the newspaper reading process and teach student to use reading strategy, yet there are still some students with reading understanding difficulty; in newspaper in education, student is used as the main target for reading instruction; in the environment arrangement, teachers tend to be able to plan with their heart; the assessment method is pretty diversified; the media literacy education and contextual analysis education still needs to be reinforced; although the administration of the school and parent can provide spiritual support, yet more practical support is hoped. IV.The difference between different teacher's background variable and the related topic of newspaper in education is that for teacher of different school scale and in newspaper in education, there is significant difference in ” explanation of content meaning” and ”textual analysis education”; for teachers of different accumulated years of teaching, through newspaper in education, the status of carry-out of ”media literacy education”, ” textual analysis education”is quite different. V.The status of students' reading of Mandarin Daily News is that most of the students have positive view on reading newspaper; students like the newspaper reading be-cause it is filled with fun; the motive for student to read newspaper is mostly self-expectation; the difficulty for students to read newspaper is pretty high, students have insufficient media literacy. VI.The difference between different student background variable and the related topic of newspaper in education is that for students of school of different scale, there is significant difference in using ”make brief explanation”, ”circle the key points”, ”use the picture or organization chart”, ”repeat the reading” strategy; schools with class size below six tend to use strategy to solve the understanding is-sue; for students of different genders, there is significant difference in using ”the submission of issues”, ”the circling of the key points”, ”induction”, ”self-reflection”, ”repeated reading” strategy, however, female used them better than male does; for students of different genders, there is significant difference in read-ing the news part, female is better than male; for students of different grades, there is significant difference in using the strategy of ”make brief explanation”, student of third grade is superior to student of fourth grade. |
