The Yueyinji by the Qing Dynasty poet Fan Yu is a collection of fifteen poems on the theme of the moon. These poems are all about the moon, and the word“moon”does not appear in any of the poems, but the cultural connotations of the moon or its symbols are expressed everywhere. The moon poems are characterized by harmony of scenery and objects, dusty realm, solemn aesthetics, and new themes, which contain multiple emotional themes of the poets. The invisibility of the moon and the use of allusions to the Six Dynasties and the pre-Qin dynasties are the reasons for the poem's emotional depth and semantic ambiguity. Drawing on the essence of Li Bai's moon poems, Fan Yu absorbs and innovates, not only learning from the beautiful poetic style of the Six Dynasties, but also gaining the aesthetic characteristics of Tang poetry, while not abandoning the free-spiritedness of the Sheng Tang. Fan Yu not only revolutionized the expression of emotion and artistic technique of traditional moon poems, but also has important value in the history of poetry and criticism. |
