This study, grounded in the WHO–UNESCO global framework Mak-ing Every School a Health-Promoting School, investigates the three-year implementation (2022‒2024) of a healthy body weight initiative at a met-ropolitan elementary school in southern Taiwan (pseudonym:“Healthy Elementary School”). Using an embedded case study design, data was col-lected through document analysis, on-site observations, semi-structured interviews, and health behavior surveys. Findings show that the school developed a locally adapted SHAPE model (Specific, Healthy, Achiev-able, Prevention, Enjoyable) that integrated curriculum, administrative support, teacher professional learning communities, family involvement, and community partnerships. Over three years, students’physical activ-ity frequency, dietary behaviors, and body composition indicators signifi-cantly improved. The study highlights micro-space reconfiguration and workload redesign as key strategies for small-school contexts and pro-poses regional collaboration mechanisms for sustainable scaling-up. |
