In recent years, changes in the security environment of East Asia caused by China’s growing military power have led Japan to gradually strengthen the Self-Defense Forces’military presence in Okinawa. This process has also received support from the U.S. military, making Okinawa a key area of U.S.-Japan security cooperation. This study aims to analyze the influence of“maritimity”on Japan’s military strategy within the framework of geopolitical scholar Saul B. Cohen’s“geopolitical structure”theory. By examining recent military developments of the Japan Self-Defense Forces in Okinawa, this research seeks to observe the reflection of geopolitical structural influences and clarify Japan’s strategic perspectives and considerations regarding Okinawa’s defense construction in contemporary times. |
