This study used in-depth interviews to understand the supply and demand status of the unit bathroom industry, with the survey period set in 2022. The primary interviewees were manufacturers, supplemented by architects and construction companies with experience in the design and construction of unit bathroom systems. According to the Taiwan Cultural Sanitary Ware Association, the total production capacity of unit bathrooms over the past decade, as of 2021, was 14,983 sets. Among them, residential buildings accounted for 4,116 sets (27.47%), dormitories 2,628 sets (17.54%), and public housing 1,238 sets (8.26%). These three residential types together made up 53.27% of the total. The proportions of public works projects versus non-public works projects were 44.81% and 55.19%, respectively, while the ratio of new construction to renovation projects was 88.83% to 11.17%. Based on the interview findings, the sales volume in 2021 was approximately 5,000 units, with annual revenue reaching around NT$600 million. The estimated production volume is projected to reach about 10,000 units by 2025 and 30,000 units by 2030. The product sources for unit bathroom ware manufacturers can be categorized into three types: A. Entirely self-produced and self-sold; B. Partly imported, combined with self-production and self-sales; C. Entirely imported. In recent years, due to rising construction costs and labor shortages, manufacturers of unit bathroom ware generally maintain an optimistic outlook on the growing sales of unit bathroom products that enable rapid construction. From 2023 to 2028, the National Housing and Urban Regeneration Center plans to build a total of 64,573 social housing units across Taiwan. If regulations require 20% of these units—about 13,000 housing units—to adopt a unit bathroom, and assuming an average of 1.3 sets per housing unit, this would generate an additional demand of 16,900 sets. This policy would also contribute to the development of Taiwan's construction and sanitary ware industries. The study's projected annual production capacity for the unit bathroom market over the next decade is sufficient to meet the additional demand arising from 20% adoption in social housing projects between 2023 and 2028. |
