Purpose: The present study aimed at exploring the correlations among simplicity, psychological needs satisfaction and life satisfaction. Subjects recruited were Taiwanese adults aging over 20 years old. Methods: The questionnaire survey method was utilized. A total of 488 valid questionnaires were collected. Independent sample t-test, ANOVA and SEM were used to analyze the collected data. Results: Major findings were as follows: (1) Simplicity had a positive effect on the psychological needs satisfaction. (2) The psychological needs satisfaction had a positive effect on life satisfaction. (3) Simplicity had no significant effect on life satisfaction. Conclusion: The study found that a more simplistic lifestyle is beneficial to adults’physical as well as spiritual well-being. By leading a more simplistic lifestyle, the desire for material consumption can be significantly lessened. At the same time, adults can achieve deeper inner satisfaction and spend more time interacting with relatives and friends. More bonding in personal relationships and increased participation in more leisurely activities will also enhance the internalized quality of life and further increase life satisfaction. The conclusion reached will thus be used as reference for individuals’development of physical and spiritual well-being, future researchers and authorities concerned. |
