This study aims at constructing a model of instruction and assessment for a general education program at a university in central Taiwan. General Psychology, one of the general education courses commonly offered in most of the universities in Taiwan, was chosen to be investigated. The approach of action research was adopted to carry out this study. Data collection lasted for two semesters. Experienced teachers were interviewed. Students' learning experiences in class were obtained through surveys. Students' learning portfolios and instructors' notes taken during the classes were collected. By means of reaffirming between theory and practice, the researchers designed a curriculum appropriate for the students. It is hoped that the findings and conclusions of this study can serve as a useful reference for instructors of general education courses for research or teaching purpose. |
