Evidence provided by existing research suggests that there are many perception and curriculum changes occurring in general music education of technological /vocational education. It is obvious that these changes need monitoring. To aim directly at non-music major students, for instance, the objectives of current general music curriculum are to help students get to know music, contact music, and understand music, but not to be suspended at the stage of basic music knowledge and skill. In fact, music classes from primary to high school are nearly the training of fundamental music capability. A clear and definite goal of general music curriculum in technological/vocational schools is to give students the competencies to seek for understanding and comprehension of music. Looking further ahead is to foster the aesthetic experience and moral value, which will lead music towards influential factor for everyday life. The first important emphasis in this study is to perceive the beliefs extended from university, technological/vocational education, and general education curricular to the future development of general music curriculum in university. The second important emphasis is to build a diverse music environment in the campus in order to promote music course with the characteristics of general education in the technology/vocation-oriented university. There will be in-depth analysis related to establishing diverse environment and the course design in general music curriculum throughout the discussion of this research. |
