This study investigates the current state of information technology (IT) usage and vision health among young children in Tainan City, based on a survey of 601 participants. The findings reveal that 60.7% of the children use IT products, with 37.5% of those under 2 years old and 68.5% of those aged 2 to 6 engaging with such devices. Additionally, 41.5% of the children watch television for 30 to 60 minutes daily. Notably, 38.9% have never undergone a vision examination, and 6.4% have been diagnosed with visual impairments, including myopia, amblyopia, or strabismus. These visual health metrics are significantly associated with factors such as the child's age, residential area, parental marital status, parental education levels, and household monthly income. To promote better vision health among young children, it is recommended to implement regular vision screening mechanisms, enhance parental awareness regarding vision care, strengthen collaboration between kindergartens, communities, and parents, and establish household guidelines for IT usage. By adopting these strategies, it is possible to mitigate the negative impacts of excessive IT product usage on children's vision and foster healthier visual development. |
