Zhu xi’s letters have been extensively studied; the time and contexts in which they were written were analyzed. Among the works along this line of research are highly acclaimed Zhu zi shu xin bian nian kao zheng and Zhu zi nian pu, authored respectively by Chen lai and Wang mao hong of the Qing dynasty. Zhu zi shu xin bian nian kao zheng cites a variety of references to scrutinize Zhu’s life events and establish the dates of his 2,000-odd letters. This work also addresses errors in Zhu zi nian pu. However, Zhu zi shu xin bian nian kao zheng is ambiguous about the dates of some of Zhu’s letters, and exactly when they were written may be determined by reviewing relevant literature. Moreover, the present study examined classic works to propose corrections to some errors in Zhu zi shu xin bian nian kao zheng. |
