This paper presents the perspective of its author, a gymnast, on past interactions with Chinese coach Sunny, which inspired poetic imaginations about gymnastics and life. The goal is to explore the significance of the interactions between the coach and the gymnast and to describe the poetic experience of gymnastics training. Through self-narration structured with a rise and fall narrative, the story is reevaluated in an unbound fashion, free from the confines of the plot and the biases of being an insider, thus revealing the complete picture. The findings indicate that Sunny possesses charismatic leadership qualities and treats gymnasts with sincerity and dedication, which shifted the author’s initial resistance to acceptance. The lessons learned from the coach extended beyond the realm of sports, encompassing the life attitudes imparted by Sunny. Additionally, the author experienced Sunny’s poetic world through 4 aspects:“soulful choreography,”“transcendence in training,”“poetic imagination during assembly,”and“gentleness and romance in the details.”The conclusion outlines that a successful foreign coach embodies professional dedication and genuine emotions. Both qualities are essential for establishing a trusting and mutually beneficial coach–athlete relationship. |
