The digital ecosystem is a fluid organization shaped by the collective influence of digital platforms and traditional logics, with its identity rooted in the institutional logic of organizational hierarchies. However, the dynamic composition of institutional logics that constitute the identity of the digital ecosystem remains relatively unknown. To explore the institutional essence of the digital ecosystem’s identity, we draw on the perspectives of the fluid organizations and institutional logics to examine the changes in identity and logic. A case analysis of Xiaomi indicates that the identity of the digital ecosystem encompasses four types of logics: platform, community, market, and company, with the prominence of different logics changing over time. Among these, the contextualization of business structures and the coherence of business models emerge as key mechanisms for the dynamic stability of the digital ecosystem's identity. Our research contributes to the understanding of ecosystem identity, fluid organizations, and the digital transition of institutional logics. |
