The cultivation of high school technical and vocational teachers has recently begun to receive widespread attention from Taiwan society. The main reason is that in December 2023, the National Taiwan Normal University (NUTN) decided to stop recruiting students for bachelor's degree program in the Department of Industrial Education from the 2025 academic year. Criticisms poured in from all walks of life, worried about the impact on the training of technical and vocational teachers, and called on the Ministry of Education (MOE) to interfere. After assessing the demand for teachers in industrial cluster subjects, MOE decided to provide government-funded teacher training places for a special class, to recruit technical high school (vocational high school) students, and cultivate teachers in the mechanical cluster, electrical and electronics cluster, and power machinery cluster. This article analyzes the problems of the incident, discusses the causes and impacts of the problem from the perspectives of teacher training and technical and vocational education, puts forward the implications of the incident for overall teacher training, and finally makes conclusions and suggestions. |
